All photos of mammary systems were taken with 11-13 hours of milk (or less).  We do not allow our does' udders to go without milking for longer than this time.  It is terribly uncomfortable for them.  We prize a doe whose udder fills and milks out well within 12 hours.  That is a true milker!  What we all strive for!

Sugar Pine FD Bit O' Honey

This elegant, light brown doe is still a bit shy at times.  She came to us totally wild and crazy and is now fairly tame and easy to handle.  Her kids are always gorgeous and show quality, with sweet personalities!  Honey has lovely dairy character with excellent feet and legs, a long, lean neck, thin, pliable skin, and short glossy hair coat.  This young doe is also very long and level with a nice rear leg set.  She is a wonderful example of the Nigerian breed, the epitome of a miniature dairy goat.  We are so proud to have her in our herd!

While Honey excells in dairy character and overall conformation I would like to see more improvement in her udder, it is nicely attached, well-shaped, and easy to milk.  I do wish she had a stronger medial, teats placed closer to her medial, and more extension in the fore.  One of her daughter's, Lyla, freshened with a lovely udder and greatly improved medial and teat placement so we have high hopes for more of Honey's daughters.

Honey is a wonderful brood doe and definitely a favorite around here, she will be staying in our herd for quite some time!

**Honey may be offered for sale in 2010

Sugar Pine M Sunset Eve

This little doe is my sister's first Nigerian.  Lydia has always wanted a goat named Cordelia.  So Eve is now known as "Cordelia".  This young doe is fairly long and level-bodied, she has excellent shoulders, good feet and legs, and a very nice rear leg set.  I suppose she tends to toe out just a bit in the front.  Cordelia is very petite and fine-boned; she will probably stay quite small.

Cordi freshened in December with the most adorable twins!  :)  Of course, they are all adorable!  We are so thrilled with her mammary system.  It is everything we could have hoped for and expected of her bloodlines.  Her udder is up high and well attached all-around.  Teats are placed well, with large orifices that milk out quickly.  She produces a good amount of milk for her small stature.  :)  I expect her to gain even more capacity with future freshenings.

*Cordelia and her dam, Sunset are out on a milking lease for the winter to C.M. - they will be moving to their new home after breeding.  We are reserving rights to a doe kid back from both girls.  Thanks Tisie!

An unclipped "Cordelia" enjoying the pasture, Summer 2008

Cordelia's first-freshening -- photos taken 1/4/09 at 29 days fresh with 11 hours of milk.  It was cold and I didn't want her udder to be totally bare, so I only clipped a little of it.

Prairie Wood Leah

Leah is a lovely gold and white doe with stunning blue eyes.  She is so very friendly and loves people!  She is almost too friendly to the point of being "pesty."  One of her favorite things to do is bug Grandpa as he is trying to get through the goat pasture to feed his cows.  She runs straight to the gate when she sees him coming, knowing he'll probably dish out some grain, just to get her out of his hair.  ;)  She drives him nuts half the time, but he says he still likes her.  She is a bit of a "loner" and is content wandering around the pasture by herself.

I am pretty happy with Leah's overall conformity.  She is long, level, and has nice dairy character, sharp withers and tight shoulders.  I wish she had more width between the hocks and a slightly more level rump.  Her udder is quite nice being very high and wide in the rear.  Milking is a breeze with her large teats and wide open orifices.  She does have a small pocket in the fore and I'd like for her medial to be more defined.  Unfortunately, Leah is not very photogenic at all. . . she would much rather be up in my face than posing pretty.  The photos below are the best I could get for now.
